Michigan State Police announced on Monday, December 8 that detectives arrested a 15-year-old male suspect overnight in connection with last month’s fatal shooting of a 13-year-old boy in Highland Park. The teen suspect is lodged pending review by the prosecutor, and because he is a juvenile authorities are withholding further identifying information at this time. Police said there is no indication that anyone else is in danger.
The deadly gunfire erupted around 3:45 p.m. on November 25 in the parking lot of a Dollar General near Woodward Avenue and Manchester Street. Highland Park officers found the 13-year-old lying on the ground suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed from the scene and later died from his injuries.
Investigators said the chaotic scene stretched across a large area, with more than a dozen evidence markers scattered near nearby apartments and businesses. One bullet struck a window at the CSL Plasma center across the street, highlighting how far rounds traveled during the shooting.
Authorities initially said information was limited as they worked to track down suspects and interview witnesses. Michigan State Police have taken the lead in the investigation and confirmed their Special Investigation Section and Fugitive Team apprehended the juvenile suspect.
The investigation remains active as detectives continue to build the case and determine what led to the violence that claimed the young boy’s life. Anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact Michigan State Police.
