Livonia, MI – A 21-year-old Plymouth man was killed early Thursday morning after losing control of his vehicle on I-275 and being struck by a semi-truck in Livonia, according to police.
The crash happened around 3:38 a.m. Thursday, March 5, on the southbound lanes of I-275 near Eight Mile Road.
Livonia police said the man was driving a Chevrolet Camaro southbound when he lost control on wet pavement during rainy conditions. Investigators believe the driver was traveling too fast for the slippery roadway when the vehicle spun out.
Police say a semi-truck then struck the passenger side of the Camaro, pinning the car between the front cab of the truck and the freeway guardrail.
The impact left the Camaro lodged under the semi-truck for several hours, according to authorities.
The driver of the Camaro was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not yet been released pending notification of family.
The semi-truck driver was not injured and is cooperating with investigators. Police also said there were no indications of alcohol or drugs involved in the crash.
Southbound I-275 at Eight Mile Road was closed for several hours while police investigated and crews cleared the wreckage. The freeway has since reopened.
