I’m not telling you something you don’t already know if you’re a driver in Michigan, you pay A LOT for auto insurance in this state despite the promise by Big Gretch to lower premiums with her 2019 Michigan No-Fault Auto Insurance Reform Bill. The only thing it did was strip drivers of necessary medical coverage which gives you less coverage and protection for more money.
A new report from auto insurance marketplace Insurify has reported that Michigan has already seen a 14% increase in the average annual cost of full-coverage car insurance in the state for the first six months of the year. For the remainder of 2025 they predict another increase of 2% on top of what you’ve already been hit with.
According to an auto industry analysis of nationwide rates released by Bankrate, it found that Michigan no longer ranks as the most expensive state to insure a vehicle. That title now belongs to New York. Michigan, it found now sits 5th overall behind more expensive states like Nevada, Florida, Louisiana and as previously mentioned New York.
The national average for PLPD, or bare minimum coverage is $808 per year, while Michigan’s is $903.
That means Michigan drivers are spending anywhere from $270 per month (for full coverage) to $75 per month (for minimum coverage) on average.
