The owner of Hadi’s Cash for Cars has been arrested, accused of running a chop shop out of his Wayne, Michigan business.
Mohamad El-Hadi, 41, of Canton Township, faces charges of operating a chop shop—a 10-year felony—and three counts of receiving and concealing a stolen vehicle, according to Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel.
Also charged is Dani Mourad, 44, of Dearborn Heights, who faces one count of receiving and concealing a stolen vehicle in connection to the alleged operation.
The investigation, led by the Auto Fraud Task Force and the Michigan State Police Metro Detroit Auto-Theft Recovery Team, uncovered three stolen vehicles in the business’s yard. All had been previously reported stolen.
El-Hadi was released on a $25,000 personal bond; Mourad received a $15,000 personal bond. Both men are scheduled to return to court August 18.
“The Auto Fraud Task Force was created to tackle exactly this kind of alleged criminal activity,” said Nessel. “By embedding prosecutors directly within the Michigan State Police, we can continue dismantling auto theft and chop shop operations that threaten communities across our state.”
