At 7:25 p.m. on October 1, 2025, MSP troopers were on patrol when they received a license plate reader hit on a stolen pickup near Schaefer and I-96.
The pickup had been reported stolen out of Taylor. Troopers followed the vehicle until backup could arrive. The driver pulled into a gas station at Joy and Greenfield, where troopers boxed the pickup in with patrol cars and activated lights.
When troopers got out to speak with the driver, he threw the truck in reverse and struck one of the patrol cars. As the truck began moving forward, a trooper deployed his taser.
The 18-year-old Detroit man behind the wheel was taken into custody. An 18-year-old woman and a one-year-old boy were also in the truck. No one was hurt.
The suspect was lodged at the Detroit Detention Center pending prosecutor review. The stolen pickup was towed for Taylor PD.
“Great work by troopers to take this suspect into custody without any injuries to the public or the suspect,” said F/Lt Mike Shaw. “The increased use of technology from license plate readers, helicopters and cameras are helping us take these dangerous criminals off the street.”
