Shelby Township police say an unarmed robbery unfolded Thursday October 9, 2025 after a man stole an iPad during a Facebook Marketplace sale.
Officers were called to the 4000 block of Pebble Creek after a seller reported that a male suspect ran off with the iPad moments after pretending to inspect it.
Based on the victim’s description, officers immediately recognized the suspect and began searching nearby. Shelby Township’s K9 Unit, K9 Kamm, and the department’s drone were deployed during the chase.
Police say the suspect, identified as Jared Tyhir Barber, ignored multiple commands to stop before an officer used a Taser to bring him down. Barber was taken into custody without further incident.
Detectives later searched Barber’s residence and recovered the stolen iPad.
Barber was arraigned Friday before Magistrate Alayan on the following charges:
• Larceny from a Person
• Assaulting, Resisting, and Obstructing a Police Officer
He was issued a $50,000 cash/surety bond.
Chief Robert Shelide praised his officers for their quick actions, saying, “Their response and determination demonstrate the dedication and commitment our officers show in protecting our community every single day.”
