Former Michigan Township Supervisor Sentenced In Online Sting With Undercover Detective Posing As Minor

Former Delta Township Supervisor Ken Fletcher was sentenced Thursday, October 23, to two years of probation after prosecutors said he engaged in explicit online conversations with someone he believed was a 15-year-old boy.

The person turned out to be an Eaton County Sheriff’s detective posing as a minor during a sting operation in August 2024. Investigators say Fletcher used the dating app Grindr to send sexual messages and discussed meeting the teen at the Lansing Mall.

Fletcher resigned from his position in September 2024 after serving as Delta Township Supervisor for 15 years. He was originally charged with accosting a child for immoral purposes and using a computer to commit a crime. Under a plea deal, Fletcher pleaded guilty to the computer crime charge, a four-year felony, and prosecutors dismissed the second count.

Judge Kelly Morton sentenced Fletcher to two years of probation, restricting his social media use and prohibiting contact with anyone under 18 except his son.

Prosecutor Doug Lloyd said the probation term was appropriate. “It’s our responsibility to protect children when children aren’t mature enough to protect themselves,” Lloyd said.

Defense attorney Chris Wickman argued that Fletcher took accountability and that some probation terms were unnecessary. “Mr. Fletcher never wanted to have sex with a child. It’s just not true. It is not who Mr. Fletcher is,” Wickman said after the hearing.

Judge Morton said probation was necessary to monitor Fletcher’s behavior. Fletcher avoided jail time and will not be required to register as a sex offender.

According to Eaton County Circuit Court records, Fletcher was also ordered to pay:

⌁ $500 in assessed court costs

⌁ $130 to the Michigan Crime Victim Rights Fund

⌁ $68 in state minimum costs

Fletcher must comply with all probation terms and remain under supervision through October 2027.
