Canton Police Investigating Report of Needle Found in Halloween Candy — Online Post Sparks Questions

CANTON, MI — The Canton Police Department is investigating a report of a sewing needle found partially sticking out of a piece of Halloween candy collected in the area of Saltz and Sheldon Road.

Police confirmed they’re working to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident, which was reportedly discovered in a Twix bar after trick-or-treating in the area. The department urged parents to thoroughly inspect all Halloween candy before allowing children to eat it and to contact police if anything appears tampered with.

“If you find any object or foreign item inside a piece of candy, please contact the Canton Police Department at 734-394-5400 so officers can collect and investigate it,” officials said. “If you come across any candy that appears tampered with or suspicious, do not eat it and simply discard it.”

The department says this currently appears to be an isolated incident, but they’re urging residents to stay vigilant.

However, the report has drawn online attention and skepticism after a Facebook post showing the candy began circulating. The original poster claimed to have found the needle themselves, later clarifying that it was their child who discovered it. Commenters began questioning inconsistencies in the story, and screenshots of the exchange have since spread across social media.

Police have not confirmed the origin of the candy or whether the needle was intentionally placed there.

Bottom line: treat this report as alleged until the investigation confirms details. Parents are reminded to stay cautious and inspect all candy before consumption.
