New details in Oakland County’s missing teen case come to light

New developments have surfaced in the case of a Rochester Hills teen who disappeared after leaving school and was later discovered in rural Newaygo County.

Investigators say the 17-year-old had been communicating online with 51-year-old Troy Laferriere before he picked her up at her Rochester Hills bus stop on November 7. Her family immediately alerted police, and investigators from multiple counties worked together while her parents searched across West Michigan.

Deputies located the teen and the suspect early Thursday morning inside a remote trailer near Bitely. Laferriere is now facing multiple charges, including felony weapons charges and harboring a runaway. A separate investigation is underway regarding possible child sexual exploitation.

The teen is back home, and while she’s not speaking with her parents, she is speaking with detectives from Oakland County as the case continues.

WoodTV’s report includes additional information on where and how the teen was found and direct statements from the teen’s mother as well as additional information on the suspect. That full report is available by clicking HERE.
