Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido announced that 57-year-old Michael Hogoboom, of Eastpointe, has been formally charged after an alleged stabbing inside the group home he shared with the victim and several other residents.
The Incident
Prosecutors allege that on Monday, November 17, 2025, Hogoboom stabbed his 32-year-old housemate multiple times inside their Eastpointe residence.
Emergency responders attempted life-saving measures before transporting the victim to Henry Ford St. John Hospital in Detroit, where he was pronounced dead.
Arraignment & Charges
Hogoboom was arraigned on Wednesday, November 19, 2025 before Magistrate Mark Makowski at the 38th District Court in Eastpointe.
He is charged with:
- Homicide – Murder, Second Degree
Felony, punishable by life or any term of years
Magistrate Makowski set bond at $1 million cash/surety.
If Hogoboom posts bond and is released, he must comply with the following conditions:
- Wear a steel-cuff tether
- Have no contact with the victim’s family
- Not purchase or possess any firearm or dangerous weapon
Prosecutor’s Statement
Prosecutor Lucido condemned the violence, stating:
“While conflicts may arise between individuals, resorting to violence is never the answer. It undermines not only the lives directly affected but the stability of our society as a whole. Our office will pursue this case with the utmost seriousness to ensure accountability and to reaffirm that law and order must prevail.”
All that are accused of a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
