Woman admits guilt in Livonia crash that killed child and injured family

A Mount Morris woman has officially pleaded guilty in connection with a June 2025 hit and run in Livonia that killed a young child and left two family members critically injured. Tammy Sandoval, 55, entered her plea Wednesday in Wayne County Circuit Court, according to newly filed court records.

What Sandoval Pleaded Guilty To

According to the disposition entered by the court, Sandoval pleaded guilty to the following counts:

  • Operating a Motor Vehicle While License Suspended, Revoked, Denied Causing Death
  • Operating a Motor Vehicle While License Suspended, Revoked, Denied Causing Serious Injury

These charges carry a maximum of 15 years and 5 years in prison, respectively.

Charges That Were Dismissed

As part of the plea agreement, prosecutors dismissed the remaining charges listed on the case, including:

  • Operating While License Suspended Causing Serious Injury, second count
  • Failure to Stop at the Scene of an Accident When At Fault Resulting in Death
  • Failure to Stop at the Scene of a Serious Personal Injury Accident, two counts

The dismissed charges align with the entries visible in the November 19, 2025 disposition filed by Judge Nicholas Hathaway.

Background of the Crash

Authorities say the crash happened at 10:45 p.m. on June 29 as Tia Robinson, 28, of Detroit, was walking across a Livonia roadway with her 3 year old twins. Investigators allege that Sandoval struck all three pedestrians with her vehicle, then fled the scene.

One of the twins, a young boy, died from his injuries. Robinson and her daughter were transported to the hospital with severe, life threatening injuries.

Police identified Sandoval after a multi day investigation and formally charged her shortly after the crash.

Sentencing Date

Sandoval is scheduled to be sentenced on January 6, where she faces a potential maximum of 15 years on the death charge and 5 years on the serious injury charge.
