Police: Officer Attacked With Hatchet Before Shooting Suspect in Brownstown Garage Standoff

BROWNSTOWN TOWNSHIP, MI — On Friday, November 28, 2025, at approximately 7:20 p.m., officers responded to the 26000 block of Ingram, near Pennsylvania and Inkster, for a reported felony domestic violence incident.

After speaking with the alleged victim and multiple witnesses, officers learned the suspect had barricaded himself inside an attached garage. While attempting to establish a safe plan for arrest, officers observed the suspect armed with a weapon. As additional units were requested, the suspect advanced and struck an officer with a hatchet.

The officer fired, striking the suspect and stopping the assault. Officers immediately administered medical aid until Brownstown Fire personnel arrived and transported the suspect to a local hospital. He remains in critical condition.

Per protocol, the Michigan State Police have been assigned to investigate. MSP investigators are currently processing the scene, and the case remains active. No further details are available at this time.

Brownstown officials are asking the public for patience during the review process and acknowledge the efforts of responding officers, dispatchers, investigators, and fire crews for their handling of a challenging and rapidly developing situation.
