Man Charged After Allegedly Using Vehicle to Strike School Staff in Sterling Heights

Mount Clemens, MI — Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido announced that 45-year-old Lemuel Young has been charged after he allegedly used his vehicle to strike a school safety officer and principal during a confrontation outside Bemis Jr. High School in Sterling Heights.

The incident occurred Thursday, December 4, 2025, when vehicles were reportedly blocking the school’s bus lane. A school safety officer approached Young’s vehicle and instructed him to move, but prosecutors say he refused. When the officer stepped in front of the vehicle, Young allegedly drove forward, striking the officer’s legs.

The school principal then arrived and also demanded that Young move. Investigators say Young continued to refuse and struck the principal three separate times with the vehicle.

Young was arraigned Friday, December 5, 2025, before Magistrate Jean M. Cloud in 41A District Court on two counts of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon — each a four-year felony.

Bond was set at $10,000 cash/surety only, with no 10% option. Young must stay away from the victims and Bemis Jr. High School and is prohibited from possessing weapons.

A Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for Thursday, December 11 at 1:00 p.m., followed by a Preliminary Exam on Thursday, December 18 at 9:00 a.m., both before Judge Annemarie M. Lepore.

“Using a vehicle as a weapon is extraordinarily dangerous and will not be tolerated,” Lucido said. “My office is committed to holding offenders fully accountable and will pursue justice on behalf of victims and the public.”

All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
