Detroit Woman Pleads Guilty in Dog Stabbing Case; Faces Up to 7 Years in Prison

DETROIT — Jordan Love has pled guilty to all three felony charges tied to the brutal stabbing of her dog earlier this year, according to court records and information made available exclusively to New Media Detroit. Love is referenced as a woman in all Wayne County Prosecutor filings and official communications, and this story reflects those records.

Love entered guilty pleas on December 8, 2025, to two counts of Animals – Killing/Torturing – Second Degree and one count of Animals – Abandoning/Cruelty to 4 to 10 Animals.

Judge Signals 2–7 Year Prison Sentence

Prosecutors confirm that no plea offer was extended. Instead, Judge Cylenthia Miller conducted what is known as a Cobb’s Evaluation, informing Love in advance what sentence she would impose if Love was convicted at trial.

After hearing arguments from both sides, Judge Miller stated she intends to sentence Love to:

  • 2–7 years in the Michigan Department of Corrections on Counts 1 and 2 (Killing/Torturing Animals – Second Degree)
  • 1 year in the Michigan Department of Corrections on Count 3 (Abandoning/Cruelty to 4–10 Animals)

All sentences will run concurrently, meaning Love could technically be released after two years, with credit.

Sentencing is scheduled for January 6, 2026, at 9 a.m.

Background of the Case

Jordan Love

Prosecutor Kym Worthy originally charged Love following a disturbing incident on February 7, 2025, when Detroit Animal Control officers were dispatched to Love’s home on Manning Street for a reported dog stabbing.

  • Officers forced entry into the basement and found Gabby suffering from multiple stab wounds.
  • A total of three dogs and four cats were removed from the home.
  • Love had allegedly posted a video of the stabbed dog to social media roughly 12 hours earlier.
  • She fled Michigan shortly after and was located in Greenville, South Carolina, on March 20, 2025.
  • She was extradited back to Michigan and arrived April 9, 2025.

Love was charged with:

  1. Animals – Killing/Torturing – Second Degree (7-year maximum)
  2. Animals – Killing/Torturing – Second Degree (7-year maximum)
  3. Animals – Abandoning/Cruelty to 4–10 Animals (2-year maximum)

Prosecutor Worthy emphasized at the time that the case was a stark example of why Michigan strengthened its animal cruelty laws:

“Although we never really anticipated the alleged brutality and cruelty this case represents, as a result of our earlier efforts, this case is a clear representation of why better laws were needed.”

What Happens Next

Love will return to the Third Circuit Court on January 6, 2026, for formal sentencing.
Under the judge’s stated sentencing guideline, she faces up to seven years in prison but could be eligible for release after two years served, assuming full credit and good-time calculations.

The dog at the center of the case, a mixed-breed named Gabby, survived the attack. She has since made a full recovery and is now living her best life with her new “furever momma,” according to those close to the case. Gabby’s progress has been a bright spot in an otherwise brutal incident, offering the community a sense of relief and closure.
