Chesterfield Township police were alerted to a serious crash late Tuesday night, December 10, after an iPhone’s automatic crash detection system notified dispatch of a possible collision near 21 Mile Road and Farwell Road.
Officers were dispatched to the area around 9:55 p.m. and initially found no obvious crash scene. While checking the area, officers noticed a faint light coming from the bushes and heard a male calling out for help.
Police located an injured man near a heavily damaged Jeep that had traveled off the roadway at a high rate of speed. Investigators determined the vehicle was traveling eastbound on 21 Mile Road when it failed to navigate the curve near Farwell Road.
The Jeep crossed a ditch and continued approximately 150 feet into dense brush, striking and knocking down several large trees before coming to rest. The driver suffered visible injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Police said alcohol may have been a factor in the crash. No other vehicles were involved and no additional injuries were reported.
Anyone with information related to the incident is asked to contact the Chesterfield Township Police Department at 586-949-2322.
