Detroit Stepbrothers Jailed In Bahamas After Cruise Ship Sexual Assault Allegations

Two Detroit stepbrothers are being held in the Bahamas after prosecutors allege they carried out a coordinated rape aboard a Carnival cruise ship by secretly switching places during a sexual encounter.

According to Bahamian authorities and reported by The-Sun, the incident occurred December 15 aboard the Carnival Sunrise after the ship departed Eleuthera. A 25-year-old woman from Miami told police she consented to sex with one man but later discovered she was unknowingly having sex with his stepbrother after the two allegedly swapped places while she was asleep.

The men, identified as Sayjuan Readous, 26, and Antoine Flowers Jr., 28, were arrested after Carnival staff responded to reports of screaming from an eighth-deck cabin. The woman was found partially dressed and received a medical examination before police boarded the vessel the following morning in Nassau.

Investigators allege the woman met Readous earlier on the cruise, socialized with him, and voluntarily went to his cabin. After consensual sex, she fell asleep. Prosecutors say Readous then left the room and Flowers took his place, engaging in sex without her knowledge or consent. The woman told police she realized what happened only after turning on the lights.

Both men, who are from Detroit, Michigan, appeared before Magistrate Abigail Farrington, where they were formally charged. Flowers faces one count of rape, while Readous faces a joint rape charge along with an additional charge of abetment to rape. Bail was denied, and both remain in custody pending their next court appearance on March 26, 2026.

Readous reportedly told police the encounter was consensual. Flowers declined to comment.

In a statement, Carnival Cruise Line said it immediately responded to the allegation, provided medical assistance and support to the guest, preserved evidence, and turned the matter over to Bahamian authorities.

The case is being prosecuted under Bahamian law, where sexual assault carries severe penalties, particularly when aggravating circumstances are alleged.
