Metro Detroit drivers are seeing modest relief at the pump as gas prices continue a slow downward trend compared to recent weeks and months, according to the latest regional averages.

The current average price for regular unleaded sits at $2.774 per gallon, essentially flat from yesterday but down 4.2¢ from a week ago, 12.7¢ from a month ago, and 33.6¢ cheaper than this time last year.
Mid-grade fuel is averaging $3.414, down slightly from yesterday and 5.1¢ lower than last week, while premium gasoline has dropped to $3.992, now 18.2¢ cheaper than one month ago and 34¢ lower year-over-year.
Diesel prices, often slower to move, are currently averaging $3.634 per gallon, down 13.3¢ from a month ago, though still slightly higher than last year’s average.
Key Takeaways:
- Regular gas is down over 33¢ year-over-year
- Premium prices have fallen 18¢ in the past month
- Diesel remains elevated but is trending downward
- Day-to-day movement is minimal, signaling price stability
While prices are easing, analysts say broader swings in oil markets, seasonal demand, and regional supply factors will determine whether this decline continues or stalls heading deeper into the winter driving season.
Drivers are still encouraged to shop around, as local station prices can vary significantly even within the same neighborhood.
