A Detroit man with an active probation case in Wayne County is facing multiple felony charges in West Virginia after police say he rammed a patrol vehicle and led officers on an early-morning chase before hiding from authorities.

According to the Barboursville Police Department, Tyreese Deshawn Cook, 24, of Detroit, was arrested following a traffic stop that escalated into a police pursuit around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 6, 2026 in Cabell County, West Virginia.
Police say the incident began at the Tanyard Station Sheetz when the Cabell County Sheriff’s Office attempted a traffic stop. Authorities allege Cook refused to identify himself and refused to exit the vehicle. When a Barboursville Police cruiser arrived to assist, Cook allegedly put the vehicle in reverse and intentionally rammed the cruiser before fleeing eastbound on Route 60.
The vehicle was later located at an apartment complex. Police say three people exited the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot. Two passengers were quickly caught and detained, while Cook ran into a nearby wooded area near Hash Ridge Road.
Law enforcement established a perimeter and deployed a K-9 unit and a drone equipped with thermal imaging. Police say Cook attempted to flee again when officers closed in, but he was eventually found hiding underneath the rear porch of a nearby residence and taken into custody.
Cook is charged in West Virginia with fleeing, felony destruction of property, and hit-and-run. Authorities also confirmed Cook has an active Michigan warrant for aggravated assault.

Michigan Department of Corrections records show Cook is currently on probation in Wayne County, stemming from a June 2025 sentencing on weapons and assault-related offenses. His probation supervision is assigned to Detroit, with a scheduled discharge date of December 2026.
Police described Cook as having an “extensive” criminal history involving violent offenses.
Cook and the two passengers were transported to the Western Regional Jail, where they are being held pending arraignment. The passengers were not publicly identified, and their charges have not been released.
