A Mid-Michigan corrections officer is facing multiple felony charges after investigators say he possessed and sought out child sexually abusive material.

Luke Young, 26, of Saginaw County, was arraigned this month on two counts of aggravated possession of child sexually abusive material and two counts of using a computer to commit a crime.
Young has been employed by the Michigan Department of Corrections since 2021 and was assigned to the Central Michigan Correctional Facility in St. Louis. The department confirmed he has been placed on administrative leave following his arraignment.
According to court documents obtained by MLive, the Michigan State Police Computer Crimes Unit received a tip indicating a Kik Messenger account had accessed illicit images involving children. Investigators say the account was later linked to Young after selfies of him were discovered on the same profile.
Authorities also allege a separate Snapchat account connected to Young was used to request child sexually abusive material, further expanding the scope of the investigation.
Young was released from custody after posting a $60,000 bond, with a requirement to pay 10% upfront. As conditions of his release, he is prohibited from having contact with children and from accessing the internet.
If convicted on all counts, Young faces a potential maximum sentence of up to 28 years in prison.
Young is scheduled to return to court for a preliminary examination on Jan. 30.
