Flint Man with Violent History of Police Assault Arrested After Dragging Trooper

GENESEE COUNTY, MI — A Flint man with a documented history of violence toward police is facing new felony charges after allegedly dragging a Michigan State Police trooper with his vehicle during a traffic stop earlier this month.

Michigan State Police said troopers from the MSP Flint Post conducted a traffic stop at approximately 2:15 a.m. on January 17 on Grand Traverse Street near 6th Street in the City of Flint for a traffic violation. Troopers made contact with two occupants inside the vehicle and requested identification from the driver, who refused.

Police said the driver ignored repeated commands to exit the vehicle. When a trooper attempted to remove him from the car, the driver allegedly placed the vehicle into drive and accelerated. During the sudden movement, the trooper’s arm became wedged inside the door, causing him to be dragged along the roadway. The trooper was eventually able to free his arm and disengage.

The vehicle fled the scene. The trooper was transported to a hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

“This is an example of the risks troopers face every day,” Lieutenant Miller said. “Thankfully, the trooper only suffered minor injuries.”

Investigators later identified the driver as 24-year-old Dominque Dendy of Flint. On January 20, members of the Third District Fugitive Team arrested Dendy without incident. He was lodged at the Genesee County Jail.

Dendy was arraigned January 21 in 67th District Court on the following charges:

• Assault, Resist, or Obstruct a Police Officer Causing Injury
• Third-Degree Fleeing and Eluding a Police Officer

His next court appearance is scheduled for January 29 at 8:30 a.m.

Prior Criminal History Involving Police

Court records show this is not Dendy’s first conviction involving law enforcement.

In October 2023, Dendy was sentenced in Genesee County after pleading guilty to Attempted Assault, Resist, or Obstruct a Police Officer, stemming from a December 26, 2021 offense.

Dendy also has prior convictions for:

• Controlled Substance Use, stemming from a September 13, 2021 offense
• Unlawful Use of a Motor Vehicle, stemming from a December 13, 2020 offense
