Detroit Woman Who Shot At Repo Driver Sentenced To Prison

A Detroit woman who opened fire during a vehicle repossession last summer has now been sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to a reduced charge tied to the violent confrontation.

Shaquanda Danielle Tankersley

Shaquanda Danielle Tankersley, of Detroit, was sentenced Monday in Wayne County Third Circuit Court to 1 to 4 years in prison after pleading guilty to felonious assault for the June 12, 2025 shooting on the city’s east side. She received 22 days of jail credit and was ordered to pay $2,188.00 in fines, costs, and restitution.

The incident unfolded in the 10800 block of Nottingham Road, where police say Tankersley became involved in an altercation with a repo driver attempting to take her truck. During that confrontation, Tankersley pulled a firearm and fired.

Detroit police officers who happened to be in the area witnessed the shooting and returned fire, striking Tankersley. She was taken to a hospital and treated for her injuries. The repo driver and the officers were not hurt.

Originally, prosecutors charged Tankersley with assault with intent to murder and felony firearm, both of which carry far more severe prison exposure. But on September 17, 2025, she entered a plea deal, admitting guilt to the lesser charge of felonious assault, which cleared the way for Monday’s sentencing.
