🚔 Trooper Rear-Ended on I-96 While Working Crash Scene; Uninsured Driver Cited

Detroit, MI — A Michigan State Police Motor Carrier Officer was injured Monday morning after being rear-ended by an uninsured driver while assisting with a crash investigation on eastbound I-96 at Martin Luther King Jr Boulevard.

According to Michigan State Police, MSP Troopers were already on scene investigating a one-vehicle crash that was blocking the left lane of I-96 around 11:15a.m. when a Motor Carrier Officer arrived to help with traffic control. A Ford Focus driven by a 22-year-old man from Dearborn then struck the patrol vehicle from behind.

The at-fault driver was not injured, but the Motor Carrier Officer reported back pain and was transported for medical evaluation.

MSP First Lieutenant Mike Shaw said the driver was traveling too fast for conditions and was also found to be driving without insurance. Troopers reminded motorists that Michigan law requires drivers to move over or slow down when approaching emergency vehicles on the roadway.
