Pistons Trade Jaden Ivey To Bulls – Get 3 Point Shooter Kevin Huerter In Return

Detroit made a straight-up win-now move Tuesday as the Detroit Pistons became one of the key beneficiaries of a three-team deal involving the Chicago Bulls and the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Pistons sent out young guard Jaden Ivey and veteran point guard Mike Conley, bringing back sharpshooting wing Kevin Huerter and big man Dario Šarić, plus a protected first-round pick swap from Minnesota.

For Detroit, the headline addition is Huerter, a proven floor-spacer who fits perfectly with a Pistons roster that has climbed to the top of the Eastern Conference while ranking near the bottom of the league in 3-point attempts.

Huerter, who is averaging 10.9 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.6 assists this season, provides a needed long-range shooter — 31.4% from 3-point range — for the Pistons (36-12).

Even in a down shooting year, Huerter’s gravity changes defensive coverages and opens the floor for Detroit’s attacking guards and interior scorers. In a playoff-oriented rotation, that spacing matters far more than raw volume.

Šarić gives Detroit frontcourt depth and lineup flexibility. His salary is being absorbed into a trade exception, meaning the Pistons can keep him, move him later, or buy him out without cap complications. On a team chasing the East’s top seed, having a stretch-capable veteran who can soak up minutes and hit open shots is a quiet but useful upgrade.

Moving Ivey was the cost of doing business. Once viewed as part of Detroit’s long-term core, he had slid into a reduced role this season, and the Pistons clearly chose fit over potential. Swapping a developing guard for a plug-and-play shooter signals that Detroit believes its championship window is open right now.

Add in the first-round pick swap from Minnesota, and this becomes a smart piece of asset management on top of a basketball upgrade. The Pistons didn’t just add shooting and depth, they also improved their future draft position while consolidating their roster for a deep playoff run. That is how contenders operate when the moment is real.
