Roseville Man Convicted Of Ethnic Intimidation, Assault After Jury Trial In Macomb County

Mount Clemens, MI → A Macomb County jury has convicted a 56-year-old Roseville man on charges of ethnic intimidation and assault stemming from a 2024 confrontation involving a grocery delivery driver.

Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido announced that Michael Rivard was found guilty on all counts following a three-day jury trial held before Circuit Court Judge James M. Biernat Jr. The case was prosecuted by Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Patrick Coletta on behalf of the People. The jury returned its verdict on Thursday, February 5, 2026.

Rivard was convicted of Ethnic Intimidation, a two-year felony, and Assault, a 93-day misdemeanor. Following the verdict, he was taken into custody and lodged in the Macomb County Jail.

The charges stem from an incident on December 13, 2024, in Roseville. Authorities said a 41-year-old Black man was delivering groceries to a residence when Rivard, who lived nearby, began shouting ethnic slurs and obscenities at him. During the confrontation, Rivard also pointed a green laser at the victim’s chest.

“There is no excuse—ever—for harassing or threatening anyone because of their ethnicity. Macomb County is a diverse community where everyone is welcome. I commend the jury for fulfilling its duty and delivering justice for the victim,” said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido.

Rivard is scheduled to be sentenced on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. before Judge Biernat in Macomb County Circuit Court.
