Monroe, MI. → A man was shot while sitting inside his vehicle Monday night in Monroe during a confrontation that quickly escalated into gunfire, police said. Three suspects have since been taken into custody and multiple firearms recovered.
Officers with the City of Monroe Police Department were dispatched at approximately 8:08 p.m. on February 9 to the 600 block of Michigan Avenue after reports of a shooting involving a man seated in a vehicle. When officers arrived, they immediately began providing aid alongside Monroe Fire and Monroe Community Ambulance personnel.
According to the preliminary investigation, the incident began as a confrontation between the victim and the driver of a silver SUV in the area. The victim told investigators he attempted to confront the driver when two male individuals approached his vehicle. During the encounter, one of the men fired a handgun, striking the victim while he remained inside his car.
The suspects then fled the scene in the silver SUV.
The victim was transported to a nearby hospital and is currently listed in stable condition. Police said he has been able to speak with investigators and is cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
At the time of the shooting, the victim’s two children, ages 14 and 11, were inside the vehicle. Neither child was injured.
Detectives with the Monroe Police Detective Bureau later identified the silver SUV and tracked it to Adrian, Michigan. With assistance from the Michigan State Police and Lenawee County authorities, all three individuals believed to be involved were taken into custody. During the investigation, officers also recovered three handguns believed to be connected to the incident.
Police say there is no ongoing threat to the public.
