On Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2026, 52-4 District Court Judge Maureen McGinnis ruled there is enough evidence for the case to move forward to circuit court.

Oxford Center founder and CEO Tamela Peterson, safety manager Jeffrey Mosteller, and management assistant Gary Marken are each facing second-degree murder charges, with an alternative charge of involuntary manslaughter for a jury to ultimately decide. Aleta Moffitt, who was allegedly operating the chamber at the time, is charged with involuntary manslaughter and falsifying medical records.
Prosecutors claim the group ignored critical safety procedures that led to the fatal explosion, while defense attorneys maintain the exact cause of the fire has not been definitively proven.
