The attack happened early Feb. 10 at a gas station near Prevost Street and Joy Road.

Kevin Maurice Farries

According to prosecutors, 60-year-old Keith Graus left his vehicle at the pump when he went inside the gas station. During that time, 25-year-old Kevin Maurice Farries allegedly entered the car and sat in the driver’s seat.

When Graus returned and confronted him, authorities say Farries threw him to the ground and kicked him multiple times. Prosecutors say he then took the victim’s watch.

Surveillance cameras reportedly captured Farries getting back into Graus’ vehicle and running him over multiple times with his own car before fleeing the scene. Graus died at the scene.

The killing has shaken the local community, where Graus was known as a regular at the gas station.

Michigan State Police later located Farries at a gas station in Dearborn. When officers approached, he allegedly sped off, striking multiple police vehicles before losing control and crashing into a telephone pole.

He was taken into custody near Greenfield Road and Warren Avenue following the crash.

Farries is now charged with felony murder, first-degree murder, and carjacking. A judge denied bond, and if convicted, he faces the possibility of life in prison.
