Delta Township, MI → A quiet neighborhood in Eaton County turned into the scene of a horrific act of violence that left a child dead and multiple people seriously injured, in what investigators describe as an isolated but deeply disturbing incident.
According to the Eaton County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded February 13 to an active violence call near Green Meadows and Farmstead Lane in Delta Township. When they arrived, they found four victims and immediately began life-saving measures while simultaneously searching for the suspect.
Authorities say the suspect was quickly located and taken into custody with the assistance of Michigan State Police. He is currently being held at the Eaton County Jail while the Eaton County Prosecutor reviews the case for formal charges.
Investigators say the initial findings are almost hard to comprehend.
A vehicle driven by the suspect allegedly struck a family that was out for a walk. After the crash, the suspect is accused of getting out of the vehicle and firing multiple shots at members of the family. A bystander who tried to help was also attacked and suffered serious injuries.
A young child was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 37-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman were taken to the hospital and are listed in stable condition. A 72-year-old woman remains in critical condition.
Authorities say they have no indication of any ongoing threat to the public and believe this was an isolated incident. Still, the sheer brutality of what happened has left many shaken.
The Sheriff’s Office said the Detective Bureau is continuing its investigation and is working closely with the Eaton County Prosecutor’s Office on charges.
Officials are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact Detective Lieutenant Aaron Campbell at 517-243-9394.
