Bloomfield Township, MI – The Oakland County Republican Party confirms its headquarters in Bloomfield Township received an envelope Thursday containing a suspicious powdery substance, prompting an immediate response from local law enforcement.

According to party officials, staff members implemented internal security protocols as soon as the envelope was identified and contacted the Bloomfield Township Police Department. Authorities secured the scene and followed established safety procedures while assessing the substance. No injuries have been reported.

Party leadership characterized the incident as part of what they describe as an escalating pattern of political hostility directed toward the organization in recent months.

Chairman Vance Patrick condemned the act and criticized the broader political climate, arguing that heated rhetoric has contributed to rising tensions.

“What happened today is unacceptable and dangerous,” Patrick said in a statement. “We will not be intimidated, and we will continue standing up for the people of Oakland County.”

Senior Advisor Brian Szmytke thanked responding officers and confirmed the party is cooperating with both local and federal authorities as the investigation moves forward.

“We are incredibly grateful to the Bloomfield Township Police Department for their swift and professional response,” Szmytke said. “Our security contractors and staff are pursuing this matter fully to ensure whoever is responsible is identified and held accountable.”

The party announced its office will remain closed through the weekend while additional security measures are implemented.

Authorities have not yet released details about the contents of the envelope or whether the substance has been determined to be hazardous. The investigation remains ongoing.

Political violence and intimidation, regardless of party affiliation, are criminal matters under Michigan law. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact local authorities.
