West Bloomfield, MI — A man armed with a rifle was taken into custody Saturday morning after two people were shot in separate incidents at an apartment complex and a nearby liquor store according to the West Bloomfield Police Department.
Police said the situation began at 8:57 a.m. on February 21, when a resident of the Thornberry Apartment Complex, located near Maple Road and Farmington Road, called 911 reporting that another resident had unsuccessfully tried to force entry into their apartment using an object that looked like a stick.
Officers were immediately dispatched to the area and began searching for the individual.
At approximately 9:04 a.m., dispatchers received another call — this time from a person identifying themselves as a family member of an employee at Maple View Liquor. The caller reported that the employee had been shot and was driving himself to the hospital.
Additional officers were sent to the hospital to check on the victim. While en route, dispatch received more calls around 9:09 a.m. from Thornberry residents reporting gunshots in the area.
Responding officers located the suspect driving his vehicle near the apartment complex. The vehicle came to a stop and the individual exited while holding a rifle. Officers ordered him to drop the weapon. Police said he eventually complied and was taken into custody without further incident.
Authorities confirmed that two people suffered nonfatal gunshot wounds and are being treated at area hospitals. No additional details about their injuries have been released.
The investigation remains active. No suspect information has been released, and formal charges have not yet been announced.
