Eastpointe Woman Charged With Animal Torture After Dog Loses Eye

Mt. Clemens, MI — Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido announced that 19-year-old Dezhiar Blair of Eastpointe has been charged with Third-Degree Animal Torture, a 4-year felony, after allegedly kicking her mother’s small dog in the head with such force that the animal lost an eye.

According to authorities, the incident happened Wednesday, February 25, 2026. Prosecutors allege Blair kicked the less than 5-pound Shipoo in the head. The dog was rushed to a veterinarian for emergency surgery, where one of its eyes had to be removed.

Blair was arraigned Friday, February 27 before visiting Judge William Crouchman in 38th District Court. She is charged with Animals – Torture – Third Degree. Prosecutors stated this is the maximum charge available under Michigan law based on the evidence presented.

Judge Crouchman set bond at $50,000 cash/surety only. If Blair posts bond, she is prohibited from having contact with or possessing any animals.

A Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. before Judge Kathleen G. Galen at the 38th District Court.

Lucido called the allegations “deeply disturbing,” stating that cruelty toward vulnerable animals is not a minor lapse in judgment but a criminal act that inflicts needless suffering.

Blair is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
