Detroit Driver, Passenger Hit with Felony Charges After Wrong-Way Chase on 8 Mile

Mount Clemens, MI – A wrong-way driver on 8 Mile Road is now facing multiple felonies after what prosecutors describe as a dangerous chain of events that escalated into a police pursuit and crash.

According to Peter J. Lucido, 29-year-old Dawaun McQueen of Detroit and his passenger, 36-year-old Eric Brown, were arraigned Monday following an incident that began Sunday, March 1, 2026, near 8 Mile and Van Dyke in Warren.

Police say officers traveling westbound on 8 Mile observed two vehicles, a Ram and a Kia Optima driving eastbound in the westbound lanes. The vehicles reportedly stopped at the light at Van Dyke, where the driver of the Ram allegedly pulled in front of the Optima and reversed into it.

When officers attempted a traffic stop, the Ram allegedly fled continuing eastbound in the westbound lanes leading to a lengthy pursuit. Authorities say the chase ended when the Ram crashed between a guardrail and a parked vehicle.

Prosecutors allege that when officers attempted to detain the occupants, the driver drove forward and reversed into a patrol vehicle multiple times. Officers eventually deployed chemical spray to gain control. Both men were taken into custody.

Charges Against the Driver

McQueen was arraigned in 37th District Court before Judge Ed Servitto. He faces:

  • Third-Degree Fleeing and Eluding (5-year felony)
  • Malicious Destruction of Police Property (4-year felony)
  • Two counts of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (4-year felonies)
  • Assaulting/Resisting/Obstructing a Police Officer (2-year felony)
  • Reckless Driving (93-day misdemeanor)
  • Open Container in a Vehicle (90-day misdemeanor)

He is also facing a Habitual Offender – Fourth Offense notice, which significantly increases potential sentencing exposure.

Bond was set at $100,000 cash/surety only, with GPS tether required if released. McQueen is scheduled for a Probable Cause Conference before Judge John M. Chmura on March 12 at 9:30 a.m.

Charges Against the Passenger

Brown was also arraigned Monday and is charged with:

  • Two counts of Assaulting/Resisting/Obstructing a Police Officer (2-year felonies)
  • Open Container in a Vehicle (90-day misdemeanor)

His bond was set at $10,000 cash/surety only. He is scheduled to appear for a Probable Cause Conference on March 12 at 9:30 a.m. before Judge Chmura.

Lucido called the allegations a “brazen disregard for law enforcement and for the safety of our community,” adding that his office maintains a strict policy against offering reduced plea agreements in fleeing and eluding cases.

The case remains pending. Both defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
