K9 Brock Tracks Missing Elderly Woman With Dementia Through Freezing Cold, Leads Deputies to Her Safe

St. Clair County, MI — A police K9 is being credited with possibly saving the life of a vulnerable elderly woman who wandered away from her home during freezing overnight temperatures.

St. Clair County deputies were dispatched in the early morning hours of March 3, 2025, to Jeddo Road in Greenwood Township after an elderly woman with dementia left her home in the middle of the night.

Deputies learned the woman had walked away without shoes and wearing only minimal clothing while temperatures were below freezing, creating an urgent search situation.

St. Clair County Sheriff’s K9 Brock was deployed and immediately began tracking the woman’s scent. At the same time, a drone operated by the Port Huron Police Department was launched to assist with the search from the air.

K9 Brock followed the track for nearly 30 minutes, leading deputies through the area before ultimately directing them to a nearby home.

There, deputies discovered the missing woman inside an unlocked truck parked at the residence.

Body camera footage from the moment shows the relief when deputies realized Brock had located her.

“Good boy,” an officer can be heard saying repeatedly as the K9 leads them to the vehicle.

Moments later the deputy confirms the discovery.

“Sheriff’s department… Is that her? Somebody in the truck… that’s her.”

The woman was found unharmed and in good spirits despite the freezing conditions.

Sheriff Mat King praised the K9’s work in helping bring the situation to a safe conclusion.

“It is situations like this that we are extremely grateful to have Brock on our team,” King said. “His skills aided in locating and quite possibly saving a life.”
