Five Juveniles Arrested in Hamtramck After Stolen Vehicle Pursuits and Break-Ins

Wayne County, MI – Hamtramck police say five juveniles were taken into custody in two separate incidents connected to stolen vehicles and attempted break-ins across the city.

According to the Hamtramck Police Department, the first incident occurred on March 8, 2026, at approximately 11:52 p.m. Officers responded to the 2400 block of Commor after receiving a report of a possible breaking and entering. While searching the area, police located a stolen vehicle and attempted to investigate. Authorities said all four suspects fled the scene but were captured after a brief foot pursuit.

Those arrested included a 15-year-old Detroit resident, two 15-year-old residents of Highland Park, and a 16-year-old Highland Park resident. All four juveniles were transported to Wayne County Juvenile Detention. Police said citations were issued to the parents of each juvenile.

A second incident occurred early March 10 at approximately 4:45 a.m. Officers were dispatched to the area of Lumpkin and Edwin following reports that several individuals were breaking into vehicles. Police located a stolen vehicle believed to be connected to the incident and attempted to stop it.

After a short pursuit, the vehicle crashed and the suspects fled on foot. During a search of the area, officers located and arrested a 14-year-old Detroit resident. The juvenile was transported to Wayne County Juvenile Detention. Police said a parent was issued citations for curfew violation and parental responsibility.

Authorities say the arrests come as Hamtramck experiences an increase in vehicle thefts and attempted thefts. In response, the department has increased patrols throughout the city.

Police also announced they will take a zero-tolerance approach toward curfew violations and criminal activity involving juveniles as part of efforts to curb the recent spike in vehicle crimes.
