Dog Named “Steel” Allegedly Slammed, Kicked, and Strangled — St. Clair Shores Man Charged in Brutal Animal Abuse Case

St. Clair Shores, MI – BA St. Clair Shores man is now facing a felony charge after prosecutors say he violently abused his own dog in a disturbing incident that unfolded over the weekend.

According to the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office, 28-year-old Michael Sikorski has been charged with Third-Degree Animal Torture following allegations that he repeatedly attacked his dog, “Steel,” on Sunday, March 15, 2026.

Authorities allege Sikorski slammed the dog onto the ground, kicked it multiple times, and at one point lifted the animal by its leash — effectively strangling it — before slamming it down again. Despite the severity of the alleged abuse, it is believed the dog did not suffer permanent injuries.

Sikorski was arraigned Monday, March 16, 2026, before Judge Mark A. Fratarcangeli in the 40th District Court in St. Clair Shores. He is charged with Animals – Torture – Third Degree, a felony punishable by up to 4 years in prison — the highest charge available under current law based on the evidence presented.

The court set bond at $25,000 cash/surety/10%.

He is scheduled to appear again for a Probable Cause Conference on March 24, 2026, at 8:30 a.m. before Judge Joseph Craigen Oster.

Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido did not mince words in addressing the case, calling acts of animal cruelty “serious violations” that demand accountability.

“As prosecutors, we have a duty to protect the most vulnerable members of our communities, including the animals who depend on us for their safety and care. Acts of cruelty toward pets are not minor offenses, they are serious violations of the law and of our shared moral responsibility. Animal abuse will never be tolerated, and our office will pursue accountability for those who harm the animals entrusted to human care.”

As with all criminal cases, the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
