Mt. Clemens, MI — A 17-year-old juvenile and an 18-year-old man are currently in custody following an alleged shooting outside an Edge Fitness location in Sterling Heights on Sunday, March 15, 2026, as prosecutors continue reviewing the case and weighing potential charges.

According to the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office, the juvenile appeared before the Macomb County Juvenile Court on Tuesday, March 17, where Referee Kristin Stone granted a Special Adjournment requested by prosecutors. The delay allows additional time to evaluate whether the severity of the case warrants trying the juvenile as an adult — a decision that could significantly impact the direction of the case.
The juvenile was denied bond and remains held at the Juvenile Justice Center. A new preliminary hearing date has been scheduled for Monday, March 23, 2026.
Meanwhile, the Prosecutor’s Office is also reviewing a warrant request for the 18-year-old man connected to the same incident. He remains in custody with the Sterling Heights Police as that decision is pending.
Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido addressed the situation, noting the seriousness of the case while also emphasizing the broader consequences of youth violence.
“The situation is serious, but I am grateful the victim was not gravely injured. It is always a somber matter when considering whether to charge a juvenile as an adult,” said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido. “To all the middle and high school administrators in Macomb County, please help us to help your students avoid behavior that will affect their futures. One bad decision today can have a direct impact on their tomorrows. Please call my office to schedule an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney to speak with your students. They need to know that real life decisions have real life consequences,” Lucido added.
Authorities have not released additional details about the circumstances leading up to the shooting. The investigation remains ongoing, and any potential charges are still under review.
