Bathroom emergency at Disney’s Space Mountain lands Michigan man in jail, guest in hospital

A “bathroom emergency” at Disney’s Magic Kingdom ended with one guest in handcuffs and another in the hospital.

According to deputies, 38-year-old Faraz Syed, of Oakland, Michigan, was hurrying out of Space Mountain on September 27 when he slammed into another guest in the exit hallway. Syed told officers he was rushing because he needed to use the bathroom, but witnesses say he became aggressive when a man ahead of him told him to “wait like everyone else.”

An arrest report states Syed “charged full speed” into the victim, knocking him into a wall and metal railing along the ride’s exit path. The victim, who previously had back surgery, was hospitalized due to pain from the impact.

The victim’s fiancée told authorities she heard Syed say he had to use the bathroom just before the confrontation. Other witnesses backed up the story, though Disney said there was no surveillance footage available from the area.

When interviewed, Syed first denied any contact with the man, then changed his story and said his shoulder “may have brushed” the victim — a contradiction noted by deputies.

Syed was arrested by Orange County Sheriff’s deputies and charged with misdemeanor battery. He was booked into the Orange County Jail with bond set at $1,000.
