Bomb Threat Investigation at Canton Citizens Bank, Southfield Man Taken Into Custody

A Southfield man is in custody after a reported bomb threat prompted a major police and federal response at a Canton bank on New Year’s Eve. Canton police said the incident happened around 2:25 p.m. at a Citizens Bank branch on Ford Road, when an employee called 911 to report a suspicious man who may have placed a bomb inside the building. Officers responded and took a 33-year-old man into custody outside the bank as a precaution.

Police evacuated the bank and temporarily shut down portions of Ford and Haggerty roads while bomb squads from the Michigan State Police and the FBI examined suspicious items. Authorities later determined the items posed no threat, and all road closures were lifted. The investigation remains ongoing, and the case will be submitted to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office for review and possible charges.
