Chase On I-94: Suspect Leaps From Moving Car, Hits Police Vehicle

A Roseville man has been charged after allegedly fleeing from officers on I-94 and resisting arrest on the side of the freeway.

According to Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido, 43-year-old Antoine Mahoney was arraigned after Eastpointe Police say he refused to stop for officers in a marked patrol vehicle with lights and sirens on Thursday, October 30, 2025. While an officer in full uniform instructed him to shut off his vehicle, Mahoney reportedly sped away, leading police on a chase along westbound I-94 through Eastpointe. Officers say he fled at a high rate of speed, repeatedly entered and exited the freeway, and ignored traffic signals. Mahoney eventually slowed and jumped out of his still-moving vehicle, which rolled back and struck a police car. He resisted arrest and was tased before being taken into custody with assistance from additional officers.

Mahoney was arraigned on November 3 before Judge Kathleen G. Galen in the 38th District Court in Eastpointe on the following charges:

  • Police Officer – Fleeing – Third Degree (5-year felony)
  • Malicious Destruction of Fire or Police Property (4-year felony)
  • Police Officer – Assaulting/Resisting/Obstructing (two counts, 2-year felonies)
  • Driving – Reckless (93-day misdemeanor)
  • Operating – License Suspended, Revoked, Denied (93-day misdemeanor)

He was also charged as a Habitual Offender – Third Offense, which increases potential sentencing.

Judge Galen set bond at $200,000 cash/surety, no 10%. Mahoney is due back in court for a Probable Cause Conference on November 12 and a Preliminary Exam on November 19, both at 1:00 p.m.

Prosecutor Lucido said, “If the allegations in this case are true, it is nothing short of a miracle that no one was hurt or killed. Fleeing from law enforcement and resisting arrest are reckless, dangerous acts that show a complete disregard for the law and the safety of our community. My office will pursue justice vigorously on behalf of the people we serve.”

Lucido also called for stronger penalties against drivers who refuse to stop for police, noting, “Every time someone runs, they roll the dice with innocent lives. I want to end that gamble.”

All that are accused of a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
