CLOSED AFTER SHOOTING: Detroit Nightclub Shut Down Following Shooting of 18-Year-Old Woman

Detroit, MI — A Detroit nightclub has been shut down after a violent altercation escalated into gunfire, leaving an 18-year-old woman injured.

Detroit police, alongside the city’s building department, shut down Wall Street Ultra Lounge on Tuesday, posting a “building closed” notice on the front of the business. The club, located along the James Couzens corridor on Detroit’s west side, will remain closed until it meets city requirements and is cleared to reopen.

According to investigators, the shooting traces back to a fight that broke out inside the nightclub early Monday morning before spilling outside into the parking lot. As tensions escalated, shots were fired, striking the young woman as she was attempting to leave the scene. She told police she heard gunfire, felt pain in her elbow, and realized she had been hit. Authorities say she is expected to recover.

Neighbors say the violence didn’t come as a surprise. Multiple residents described ongoing issues tied to the nightclub, including frequent fights, loud crowds, and disturbances late into the night. Some said the chaos has been building for months, with events regularly spilling beyond the club and into surrounding neighborhoods.

Detroit police made it clear this shutdown is part of a broader push to get ahead of violence as the city heads into the spring and summer months. Officials say businesses that fail to control their crowds or operate safely will face immediate consequences. The message from police is straightforward, fix the problems or face closure.

Authorities also confirmed they had been called to the location before, though specific details about past incidents were not released. The latest shooting appears to have been the final straw in prompting action from the city.

For now, Wall Street Ultra Lounge will remain closed until ownership goes through the proper compliance process, which could include court proceedings and demonstrating that safety concerns have been addressed.
