COURT UPDATE: EASTPOINTE McDONALD’S MURDER CASE

A judge in Eastpointe set new dates in the case of 27-year-old Afeni Badu Muhammad, charged with the brutal stabbing death of her McDonald’s manager, 39-year-old Jennifer Harris, back on July 11th.

Muhammad has been undergoing a forensic mental health evaluation at the Center for Forensic Psychiatry. A report is expected in the coming weeks. The judge scheduled a Probable Cause Conference for October 8th at 1:00 p.m. and a Preliminary Exam for October 15th.

What Happens Next?

• If Muhammad is found competent → the case will move forward toward trial on First-Degree Premeditated Murder, a mandatory life without parole offense.

• If Muhammad is found incompetent → she will be ordered into psychiatric treatment. The goal would be to restore her competency. If doctors later determine she cannot ever be restored, the case could take a very different turn.

The Case So Far

Police say Muhammad was sent home from her shift at McDonald’s that morning but came back with a knife, a mask, and entered through the employee entrance. She allegedly stabbed Harris multiple times.

A customer in the drive-thru who was lawfully armed fired shots trying to stop the attack. Muhammad fled to her car, but the same customer held her at gunpoint until Eastpointe Police arrived and arrested her.

She was arraigned on:

First-Degree Premeditated Murder

Carrying a Dangerous Weapon with Unlawful Intent

She remains in the Macomb County Jail on a $25 million cash/surety bond.
