Crack-Smoking Suspect Tries to Flee Wayne County Undercover Officers, Ends Up Tased and Arrested

A narcotics investigation in Detroit escalated late Tuesday morning when a 61-year-old man attempted to run over a Wayne County Sheriff’s deputy, prompting an officer to fire shots before the suspect was taken into custody. The operation began around 11 a.m. on November 18 in the area of McNichols and Woodward Avenue, where deputies were conducting surveillance linked to a reported drug house on Arizona Street.

Investigators say they identified a man driving a red pickup truck as the focus of the probe. According to officers on scene, the man had been smoking crack inside his vehicle while deputies watched his movements. At some point during the surveillance, the suspect realized he was being followed and attempted to flee the area.

Deputies moved to box in the vehicle with multiple undercover units. As one deputy exited his cruiser, the driver accelerated the truck directly toward him. The deputy fired two shots at the vehicle, and investigators confirmed that no one was struck. The truck continued forward but became stuck on a rock, which prevented any further attempt at escape.

Deputies moved in quickly. They broke the truck’s window, removed the man, and placed him under arrest. Officers said he resisted before being taken into custody. Because he was tased during the arrest, the suspect was transported to a hospital for evaluation as required under department policy.

The scene remained active for more than an hour while investigators processed evidence and gathered statements. The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the man was wanted in connection with an ongoing narcotics investigation.
