Detroit Man Accused of Child Pornography Faces 10 Charges, Extensive Criminal History and Multiple Aliases

A Detroit man is facing 10 felony counts related to child sexually abusive material after prosecutors say investigators uncovered an extraordinarily large collection of illegal content tied directly to him. Joseph Trapp was arraigned Tuesday, January 6, 2026 in Wayne County district court and ordered held on a $1 million cash surety bond.

According to prosecutors, the investigation began after a tip was submitted to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, prompting a detailed digital investigation. Authorities allege more than 2,500 files of child sexually abusive material were directly linked to Trapp through his IP address, email accounts, and phone numbers. Those identifiers were traced back to his Detroit residence, where search warrants were executed.

Investigators say each digital identifier produced independent findings tying Trapp to the material. Prosecutors allege the total volume included approximately 7,000 images and more than 80,000 videos, totaling nearly 100,000 files. The collection was described in court as “disturbing,” with prosecutors citing both the scale of the material and Trapp’s background when requesting a high bond.

Court and registry records show Trapp is a registered sex offender with prior convictions spanning more than two decades. In 2002, he was convicted in Indiana for possession of child pornography in St. Joseph County. He was later convicted in Michigan in 2007 for possession of child sexually abusive material in Berrien County, according to offender registry data.

Trapp has also used multiple aliases, including “X Undertaker,” “Baby Monneyhan,” “Joseph A Trapp,” and “Joseph Allen Trapp,” in addition to his legal name.
