DETROIT MAN KILLED – ANOTHER INJURED IN CHILD CUSTODY DISPUTE SHOOTING

DETROIT, MI – A child custody dispute on Detroit’s west side turned deadly Sunday afternoon, leaving one man dead and another hospitalized.

Police say the violence unfolded around 4:15 p.m. on the 600 block of Delaware Street. According to investigators, the child’s father arrived at the home where his child’s mother and her fiancé lived. Words were exchanged and the father pulled out a gun, shooting the womans fiancé.

The fiancé was rushed to a nearby hospital but died from his injuries.

As the gunfire erupted, a male witness at the scene returned fire, striking the shooter. The suspect, the child’s father, was wounded and taken into custody after being transported to the hospital. His current condition has not been disclosed, but police say he is expected to survive and will face charges.

Police confirm the dispute was centered around child custody but have not said if there was a court order in place or whether this was a scheduled exchange. The investigation remains active as detectives work to determine exactly how the confrontation escalated.

No names have been released at this time.

This is a developing story.
