According to Kym Worthy, 17-year-old Trejion Sanders of Detroit faces multiple felony charges stemming from the March 6, 2026 incident involving a 31-year-old Eastpointe man who was working as a hospital security guard at the time.
Authorities say the incident occurred around 11:53 a.m. in the parking lot of the hospital in the 19200 block of Mack Avenue in Grosse Pointe Woods.
Investigators allege Sanders was attempting to break into vehicles when he was approached by hospital security officers. During the encounter, prosecutors say Sanders reached for a handgun. A security officer deployed a department-issued taser, but it had no effect.
According to prosecutors, Sanders then pointed the handgun and fired at the security officer. The security officer returned fire with his department-issued firearm, striking Sanders in the leg.
Sanders was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for the gunshot wound before being released. He was then taken to the Juvenile Detention Center. The security officer was not injured during the incident.
The investigation was handled by the Grosse Pointe Woods Public Safety Department with assistance from the Michigan State Police.
Sanders is charged with:
- Assault with Intent to Murder
- Assault with Intent to Do Great Bodily Harm
- Carrying a Concealed Weapon
- Felonious Assault
- Three counts of Felony-Firearm
He was arraigned in Grosse Pointe Woods Municipal Court and issued a $250,000 cash/surety bond.
A Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for March 18, 2026 at 11:00 a.m., followed by a Preliminary Examination on March 25, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. before Judge Theodore Metry.
Sanders is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
