DETROIT WOMAN CHARGED AFTER CRASHING INTO CENTER LINE HOME, INJURING 9-YEAR-OLD GIRL

MT. CLEMENS, MI – Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido announced charges against 20-year-old Caris Adell Wade of Detroit after she allegedly crashed her vehicle into a Center Line home early Monday morning, seriously injuring a young girl who was asleep in her bedroom.

Investigators say the crash happened around 2:55 a.m. on October 13, when Wade was “willfully, wantonly, and recklessly” driving before losing control and slamming into the home. Inside the bedroom were a 9-year-old girl and her 22-month-old sister. The 9-year-old suffered serious injuries, while the toddler was unharmed.

After the crash, Wade allegedly fled on foot but was quickly tracked down by officers from the Warren Police Department. Toxicology results are still pending to determine whether drugs or alcohol were involved.

Wade was arraigned Tuesday in 37th District Court before Judge Michael C. Chupa on the following charges:
Reckless Driving Causing Serious Impairment of a Body Function – 5-year felony
Failure to Stop at the Scene of an Accident Resulting in Serious Impairment or Death – 5-year felony

Judge Chupa set bond at $200,000 cash/surety. If released, Wade must wear both a GPS and alcohol tether. She is scheduled for a Probable Cause Conference on October 22 and a Preliminary Exam on October 29, both at 8:45 a.m. before Judge John Chmura.

Prosecutor Lucido said, “This could have been worse than what it already is for this family. Reckless or drunk driving, crashing into residences, and then fleeing from law enforcement will not be tolerated in Macomb County.”

Charges are accusations. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
