Domestic Violence Suspect Dead After Armed Standoff With Police in Port Huron

PORT HURON, Mich. — A domestic violence suspect is dead following an armed standoff with police Thursday night in Port Huron, authorities confirmed.

According to the Port Huron Police Department, officers were dispatched at approximately 7:19 p.m. on January 22, 2026, to the 3000 block of 26th Street for a report of a physical domestic assault in progress.

As officers arrived and approached the residence, the suspect began firing shots toward police. Officers immediately took cover and established a perimeter around the home.

Additional law enforcement resources were called to the scene, including the Port Huron Police Department Special Response Team and the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team.

Police said the suspect fired multiple rounds toward officers from an upstairs window during the standoff. Crisis negotiators attempted to communicate with the suspect, but those efforts were unsuccessful.

A drone was later deployed into the residence to assist officers in locating the suspect.

Using the drone, officers located a male subject who appeared to be unresponsive in an upstairs bedroom. Special Response Team members then made entry into the residence before Midnight, where the suspect was found deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Thankfully, no officers were injured during the incident.

The investigation remains ongoing.
