Drone Technology Leads To 3 Arrests In Dearborn Heights; 2 Remain At Large

Dearborn Heights, MI – Quick action by troopers and coordinated support from local law enforcement led to three arrests and the recovery of a stolen vehicle early Sunday morning.

According to authorities, the incident unfolded around 12:45 a.m. on 2/22 in the area of Evergreen and Ford Road in Dearborn Heights.

Troopers on patrol were alerted to a stolen vehicle in the area. While checking an apartment complex off Evergreen, they observed three males who appeared to be attempting to break into a vehicle.

When the suspects noticed police presence, they ran from the complex and around a building toward Evergreen Road.

Investigators say the group then attempted to enter a green vehicle. As troopers approached, three suspects fled from the car while two additional suspects ran from inside the vehicle.

Troopers gave chase on foot and attempted to deploy a taser, but the deployment was unsuccessful. Assistance quickly arrived from the Dearborn Heights Police canine unit and the Dearborn Police Drone Unit.

Three suspects were taken into custody:

  • 20-year-old Black male, driver, from Detroit
  • 21-year-old Black male, passenger, from Hamtramck
  • 19-year-old Black female, passenger, from Detroit

Two additional suspects remain at large.

Authorities confirmed the green vehicle was the original stolen vehicle and it was successfully recovered. The three arrested suspects were lodged pending prosecutor review.

“Another example of teamwork and the use of technology to get criminals off the street,” said F/Lt. Mike Shaw. “Criminals do not recognize city or county boundaries and it takes all of us to keep our communities safe.”
