Mount Clemens, MI – Authorities say 27-year-old Nico Trevon Nettles of Eastpointe has been bound over to circuit court on a charge of Second-Degree Murder in connection with the fatal stabbing of 28-year-old Rashid Aliakbar of Detroit earlier this year.
After a Preliminary Exam on Friday, October 17, 2025, 38th District Court Judge Kathleen G. Galen ruled that prosecutors presented enough evidence for the case to move forward. The hearing was conducted by Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Brian Fox.
Investigators allege that on May 12, 2025, Nettles stabbed Aliakbar in the upper chest during an altercation inside an Eastpointe residence. Officers responded to a report of a stabbing and performed lifesaving measures before Eastpointe Fire and Rescue and MedStar transported the victim to Ascension St. John’s Hospital in Detroit, where he later died from his injuries.
Nettles remains lodged at the Macomb County Jail on a $2 million cash or surety bond. His next court appearance, an arraignment before Judge Jennifer M. Faunce, is scheduled for Monday, October 27, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. in Macomb County Circuit Court in Mount Clemens.
Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido issued a statement following the hearing:
“No disagreement, no matter how personal or intense, should ever end in violence. Disagreements can and should be settled with words, through dialogue or lawful channels. A man is dead and nothing can change that. Our office will seek justice for the victim and his family to the fullest extent of the law.”
All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
