A convicted sex offender from Eastpointe is now in custody after police say he kidnapped and sexually assaulted a 12-year-old girl, then bolted across state lines.
While major outlets have withheld his name, Metro Detroit Crime Report has confirmed through official records that the suspect is 52-year-old Andrew Logan Williams, a registered sex offender with the Michigan Department of Corrections. Williams, a 6’1”, 320-pound male, is accused of targeting a 12-year-old girl.
The victim reported to Eastpointe police that she was assaulted on Monday, September 22. A search warrant executed at Williams’ home turned up disturbing evidence that may point to additional victims, including items investigators described as “trophies.”
By the time the warrant was signed, Williams had already fled Michigan. He was tracked down by U.S. Marshals and taken into custody in New York on September 23. Jail records show he was booked at 7:46 p.m. EDT, less than 24 hours after the assault occurred. He remains in custody pending extradition back to Michigan on multiple felony charges.
Williams is currently listed as an active and compliant offender on the Michigan Sex Offender Registry.
The Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office has confirmed it will seek extradition. Investigators are urging any additional possible victims to come forward.
